When you are thinking of designing t-shirts, there are several aspects that you need to consider, such as the design, how and where to get it printed from, which fabric is to be used, etc. Amongst all the factors, fabric plays a vital role, as it help in determining various other elements of a t-shirt. Every fabric has its own qualities, whilst some are soft and rough, others are stretchable. The quality of fabric determines how long a t-shirt can hold its shape even after washing and wearing it for a number of times.
Not to mention, if you are planning to have your own t-shirt business then you ought to choose the material wisely, as it can have a great impact on its quality. Every material is different in longevity, cost, weight, texture, shrinkage, etc. In this article, we have mentioned the type of fabrics that can be used for t-shirt manufacturing. Cotton It is considered as one of the best fabrics for manufacturing t-shirts, as it is soft, natural, affordable and easy to find. Also, it comes in various forms, such as Combed cotton, Organic cotton, Pima and Supima cotton. Combed cotton is prepared by straightened, brushed fibres, which makes it softer and smoother. Organic cotton also has similar characteristics like combed cotton, as it is prepared from cotton grown with few fertilisers and pesticides. It is more expensive than treated cotton. The only flaw about cotton is that it shrinks a bit after first wash. Linen It is another great choice for manufacturing t-shirts. Linen is prepared from flax plant due to which it has a slightly rough texture with a weave that dries quickly. People usually prefer to wear linen in summers, as it keeps them cool and free of moisture. However, if you’re planning to sell linen t-shirts, make sure you mention about ironing the t-shirt in your care guide because linen fabric wrinkles a lot. Lycra Due to its flexibility, it is mostly used for athletic clothing, as it allows the body to move with ease. However, a t-shirt is never fully manufactured from Lycra; only a small percentage of it is added to the garments to make them more flexible and stretchable. Polyester It comes in the category of synthetic fibres. However, it is not soft as cotton and lightweight as linen; it is still considered as a great choice for manufacturing garments due to its ability to maintain its shape. A t-shirt made from polyester can maintain its shape well and resist shrinkage and wrinkles. Also, it is a strong and quick drying fabric in nature, which makes it a great choice for athletic wear. Rayon It is a man-made material, which is prepared from a mixture of cotton, trees and woody plants. Due to the mixture of three blends, it is silky and soft in nature, making it an extremely comfortable tee. The only drawback about Rayon is that it cannot stand against regular washing and regular wear. These five fabrics mentioned above are used for manufacturing t-shirts. So, if you want to provide some quality stuff to your customers, then choose your material wisely.
